Event Description:

Our speaker, The Iron Yard’s Jessica Mitsch, will talk about the fascinating rise of coding bootcamps over the past few years and the specific niche they fill in the marketplace.  These bootcamps provide immersive training in programming for individuals interested in rapidly moving to a new career in an entry-level IT role, typically as a junior software developer.  Individuals from all walks of life are attending these programs and the number of code schools around the country is growing rapidly. Jessica will talk about the history of this industry, how coding bootcamps work, the demographics and motivations of the students who attend, and The Iron Yard’s unique approach to training, coaching, and community involvement.  Jessica will also share a bit about the role The Iron Yard is playing in helping corporate enterprises transition subsets of their non-tech workforces to technology skill sets.  To get ready for this fascinating session…review the Wired Magazine article about the coding bootcamp trend:https:/ /www.wired.com/insights/2014/08/rise-coding-boot-camp/
