Do you write learning assessments as an afterthought to the ID process? Do you spend too much time remediating failures? Do you feel stuck using assessments as a way to “check the box” rather than truly test learning? Are you challenged with writing questions that support learning? Would you like to explore common pitfalls and learn how to write effective questions?

You are not alone! In this scenario-based workshop, we will discuss the value of writing effective learning assessments, when to write them, and who the key folks are that can help you. We will examine actual test questions, identifying common issues and rewriting those questions in a way that more effectively measures learning. Stay for the full-day option to get an added bonus: You will write actual test questions for a course of your own, and you will have a chance to receive peer and instructor feedback.

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  •  Explain the purpose of learning assessments and their role in the learning process
  • Identify at least 12 common issues with test questions that use a multiple choice/multiple response format
  • Describe and apply best practices to write “better” test questions

The half day option (9:00am-12:30pm) will include a light continental breakfast.  The Full day option (9:00am-4:30pm) will also include lunch.
