Gaining Insight into User Behavior through xAPI Data

    ATD Competency: Learning Technologies

    Description

Amy Jenniches has been an elearning developer at SAS for close to 20 years. Recently, she has been working on incorporating the xAPI specification into SAS elearning.

In this session, Amy will provide some basic information about xAPI and LRSs (Learning Record Stores), explaining what xAPI is and why it is useful. Then Amy will briefly describe how SAS has implemented xAPI into their custom learning platform. Finally, she will discuss her strategy in using the xAPI data that SAS gathers in order to better understand how users engage with their elearning on a granular level. Most existing information about xAPI focuses on how learners can use their own xAPI data, or how employers can use data about the learners that they employ. Because SAS provides customer training, they want to know whether their training is being used in the ways they expect and hope, and xAPI data can help them figure that out. Amy will also talk about the challenges she encountered during implementation and in designing a reporting dashboard.
