    Description:

    Michelle Bartlett, Ph.D. (NC State faculty) and David Humphrey (NC State graduate student) will be leading a discussion around “selecting and/or designing organizational research, for example defining research questions, creating hypotheses, and selecting methodologies.” There will be a short narrative presentation and then an interactive discussion around potential studies that could be designed around problems of practice. This is a primer level discussion about research concepts and how to apply them to studies that measure impact. No previous research experience is necessary to successfully engage in this discussion.

    Learning measurement involves a variety of factors from basic items like quality of design and delivery all the way to financial cost/benefit. In order to have a complete view on the key learning measurement elements one must start with a solid impact process map.


    This webinar will present a complete impact process map designed by and for learning professionals. It will review not only basic measurement needs like quality of learning but differentiate between a business outcome (ex. sales) and a talent outcome (ex. culture) and offer clear and simple methods to collect and report on these measurement items.

Michelle received her Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership with a cognate in Statistics at Clemson University. She currently is Editor for the Career & Technical Education Research Journal. Michelle has extensive experience designing and facilitating training for post-secondary education, business, and government programs. Her multidisciplinary experience creating programs includes workshops in Executive Leadership, Change, Conflict Management, Empowering Middle Management, Improving Training Effectiveness, and Instructional Design.

    One of the biggest challenges for learning professionals is showing how their learning programs contribute to business success. The Learning Evaluation Certification provides learning professionals with the knowledge and ability to make clear connections between their training design, behavior outcomes, and business results.

    Quantifying learning outputs and measuring how learning leads to business outcomes is effectively being used in organizations today. This certification provides the latest methods being used by companies in a variety of industries such as healthcare, pharmaceutical, financial, manufacturing, and hospitality.

    Identifying how learning programs transfer into changes in business performance and organizational metrics is a new skill requirement for trainers. The Learning Evaluation Certification is a one-day program that prepares learning professionals to design programs that can be measured, measure programs so they can be evaluated, and evaluate programs to show business outcomes.

    It provides clarity on how to define the behavior results from training, measure the behavior, and connect behavior changes to the associated metric. You will learn the simple steps necessary to create the impact chain of evidence including what type of data to collect, when/how the data is collected, interpretation of the data, and how to communicate the results to stakeholders.

    Laura Paramoure, EdD, has 25 years of experience in performance improvement, training design, and evaluation. She is the author of ROI by Design™ (2014) and a featured speaker on the topic of return on investment for training organizations such as Association of Talent Development (ATD). Her private sector experience includes Director of Training and Development with Parata systems where she was responsible for the establishment and deployment of both domestic and international training.
