Steal the Show! How to Use Storytelling and Acting Techniques to Create Stellar Presentations

Session Description:

Effective presentations are more than just well-organized slides—they are opportunities to influence, engage, and inspire. In this professional development session participants will explore how storytelling and acting techniques can elevate their delivery and increase audience impact.

ATD RTA Board members Chris Massaro and Heather Murray, will explore the core elements of compelling storytelling, including plot, character, conflict, and resolution, and learn how to structure content in a way that captures and sustains audience interest. The session will also introduce acting-based strategies such as purposeful body language, vocal variety, emotional authenticity, and techniques to manage stage fright.

Through collaborative, hands-on activities, participants will apply these methods in real-time by understanding how to craft and delivering impactful presentation. The session is designed to strengthen presence, boost confidence, and enhance communication effectiveness in professional learning environments.

Attendees will learn:

  • Identify the four key storytelling elements (plot, character, conflict, resolution) and their relevance to presentations.
  • Apply basic acting techniques such as body language, voice modulation, and emotional authenticity to improve delivery.
  • Practice techniques to manage stage fright and enhance confidence.
