Steal the Show! How to Use Storytelling and Acting Techniques to Create Stellar Presentations
Session Description:
Effective presentations are more than just well-organized slides—they are opportunities to influence, engage, and inspire. In this professional development session participants will explore how storytelling and acting techniques can elevate their delivery and increase audience impact.
ATD RTA Board members Chris Massaro and Heather Murray, will explore the core elements of compelling storytelling, including plot, character, conflict, and resolution, and learn how to structure content in a way that captures and sustains audience interest. The session will also introduce acting-based strategies such as purposeful body language, vocal variety, emotional authenticity, and techniques to manage stage fright.
Through collaborative, hands-on activities, participants will apply these methods in real-time by understanding how to craft and delivering impactful presentation. The session is designed to strengthen presence, boost confidence, and enhance communication effectiveness in professional learning environments.

Christopher Massaro

Christopher Massaro is a learning and development professional with over 25-year experience the development and facilitation of training programs in the retail, hospitality, and service industries.
Chris ATD Master Trainer and has facilitated hundreds of session including training conferences, keynotes, and leadership development of sessions across several industries including entertainment, hospitality, retail, government, healthcare, and technology. He contracts with several training providers to design and facilitates professional development workshops.
Chris holds a Master’s in Leadership Studies and is currently pursuing a doctorate in coaching and mentoring. He is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Southern Maine, where he teaches in the Leadership and Organizational Studies department, Christopher has developed and passion and expertise in social science research methodology. He is passionate about connecting academic theory and the practical application of learning knowledge and best practices.

Heather’s career journey includes roles in program coordination and education, where she has honed her skills in curriculum design, coaching, and digital learning strategies. She is passionate about leveraging storytelling, creativity, and interactive learning methods to enhance engagement and retention.
A lifelong learner, Heather holds a Master’s in Theatre Education from The Catholic University of America and a Bachelor’s in Zoology with a Theatre Minor from North Carolina State University.
